Summer Rolling On..

Fourth of July and the summer is in full tilt!! We have been busy photographing seniors and creating new styles of images that we haven't done before...It's alway good to re-invent yourself. Still have a few openings for seniors and or senior families from the Class of 2010...

Ben's Vintage Trumpet

Trumpets are one of my favorite instruments, so when Ben showed up with this "vintage" looking trumpet..I was excited! It has that old age jazz look..very cool. Our week is filled with seniors and I'm certain they will bring lots of good stuff to see.. The senior portrait season is off and running..don't wait too long to reserve your session..they are filling up..Summer is finally here!

Liberty Dance Center Recital

It's difficult to find an event that will put more smiles on your face than a dance recital. To watch these young athlete/dancers show off what they have worked so hard to enjoy doing is a joy! The Liberty Dance Center Recital was a treat for all our eyes. For Cory and me, we have known these dancers year after year and to see them develope and as seniors in high school become so skilled..that is a credit to everyone from the moms and dads to Cindy Padilla, dance instructor...

Nicole Rock's Recital

It's not often you see dads sitting in an auditorium for two hours holding flowers they will give to their daughters after they perform their dances. Dance recitals bring families together to encourage each other and to be proud of what has been accomplished. A recital is really fun entertainment and Nicole Rock's students did a great job!

Dancers Bring Creativity!

We have been photographing dance studios..many, many energetic little dancers in imaginative costumes! Their recital performances are this weekend and we are looking forward to seeing the dances. I love photographing dancers as they are such a combination of athleticism and artistry (at least after a few years of training). We enjoyed dancers from Nicole Rock's School of Dance and Cindy Padilla's W.L. Dance Center.

Our Senior postcards have been mailed and if you have a 2011 Senior, hopefully, you got one..if not - call our studio to recieve information. On to the next project...

Day before Proms!!

The day before we photograph two proms!! One theme is a "Parizian Rendevous" and we built an authentic sidewalk Paris cafe set.... Second theme is a "Pirate" theme....lots of chests filled with treasure!! Both promise to be fun!! Will post a couple pics next week...so you can see them.

Senior Seminar at Country Oaks

What a fun day...members of Northeast Iowa Professional Photographers group gathered at our studio for a day of learning. David and Mary Lee from Peoria, IL, spoke and demonstrated the latest in Senior photography...David is Senior Photographers International's top photographer in the entire USA!! Professional photographers from all over eastern Iowa came to West Liberty and left with loads of new information.

One of David's themes was that professional photographers have to once again do what they alone can do so well....great controlled studio lighting and posing coupled with unique settings. What separates the real professional from someone who has just bought a new camera is the quality of his vision and extreme care in detail and creativity. One of his quotes was- "Excellent portraits come 10% from between the hands and 90% from between the ears" - it's not the camera--It's the artist with the camera. Dave and I have been friends and print competitors for many years and have learned much from each other.... Dave and Mary, thanks for a great day!

Outdoors is great!

Ok,,,off to photograph track teams...sun is out,,,75 degrees,,waited all winter for this... I promise not to complain as I get the lawn and outdoor settings ready for this summer's sessions!! For sure, you can check back on our studio facebook and see new outdoor settings available for seniors and families this summer......

Oh, and we promise not to make your skin look like "plastic"....we like it that you like regular human skin...that looks clean and clear; that's what we strive for ;but, if you like "plastic" we can do that for you...whatever....
